WHY CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION IS SO IMPORTANT
At The Urban Farmer, we are inspired by the symbiotic relationship between man and nature. When you think about it, everything we use and consume on a daily basis, albeit food, medication, beauty and cleaning products and more, is fundamentally inspired by nature. We have taken her laws and mimicked them using her ingredients to create efficiency, comfort and practices that we all rely on to get well, look beautiful and prevent disease and illness. Though, we seem to have forgotten this basic truth. We can see this in the rise in production of cheap chemical alternatives that have far-reaching and expensive consequences from the seen to the unseen.
“It is our mission to re-establish the relationship between man and nature by reconnecting us to nature through the consumption of organic, water-sensitive, chemical-free produce and products that you can trust”
The Urban Farmer offers chemical free and organic food with a genuine packaging sensitivity. The intention here is to connect people to the elements of the ecosystem on which our life and all life depends. Industrial agriculture and the manufacturing practices that dominate the world feeding system are largely responsible for not only the toxic build up of planet earth, but also the human body. These toxins have the power to destroy thriving ecosystems out there and in here. Both result in disease. The packaging that our food is packed in also has the power to add toxicity to planet earth and the human body, as well as to stifle existing and thriving ecosystems. Plastic, unlike everything else in nature cannot biodegrade.
In providing the space to buy clean and sensitively packaged food and household items, The Urban Farmer hopes to bring a shift in awareness around how our purchasing habits have a radically powerful impact on planet earth and our human bodies.
“The realisation that if the food we are feeding our vegetables is poisonous then the vegetables we are feeding our marvellous bodies with is poison, is a radical awakening”
We cannot feed the soil with poison and expect to be well. We cannot act in a violent way toward that which gives us life and expect to be alive for much longer. We cannot evolve if we do not start acting consciously around what we eat and what this food is packaged in. Realisation of the intrinsic connection between us and all of life and the consequent action toward a more sustainable way to live will hopefully lead to a deepened consciousness whereby acting in any other way becomes impossible. In essence The Urban Farmers main focus is to create the fertile soil out of which deep connection to the whole of life can transpire and out of this all life can flourish.
The Urban Farmer promotes connection not as an act, but as a state of being. Inherent in this state of being is a fundamental seeing that all healthy ecosystems simultaneously feast on the abundance of life and return to life the essential components that allow for the completion of the cycle. An example of this is the Bats of Zambia’s fruit forests, where millions of tons of fruit is consumed by millions of bats. In return and by means of their droppings the bats lay the seeds for the next generation of fruit trees that will continue to feed them for lifetimes. This is a complete cycle on which a healthy ecosystem depends. The Urban Farmer encourages a way of life such as this. Where the food we eat and earth it comes from has not been laced in chemicals, but rather fertile soils where healthy ecosystems exist in symbiosis. We therefore have a 100% chemical free policy. Where the packaging of the food we eat is not made from a material that is going to be on this planet in the same form in generations to come.
